Conference Venue

Location: Torre do Tombo, Alameda da Universidade, Lisboa

Due to the beginning of the academic year, the venue will no more be at the FCUL building C3, but instead at Torre do Tombo (Tower of the Tomb), the Portuguese National Archive, also located at the Campus of the University of Lisbon, right beside FCUL building C2 (see map).

About the Venue

The IEB 2001 will be held at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL), which stands for Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon. FCUL was founded in April, 1911, and it inherited the scientific, historical and cultural characteristics of its predecessors which date back to 1619. For logistical reasons, due to the change of dates and beginning of the academic year, the symposium and all the workshop sessions will take place at the auditorium of the Torre do Tombo.

Nowadays, FCUL has approximately 3254 undergraduate students and 1872 MSc. and PhD. students. The variety of degrees offered by FCUL range from basic sciences, like mathematics or physics, to more technological areas, like biomedical engineering or applied statistics.

The facilities at FCUL include 8 modern building located in a concentrated area and where all academic and scientific activities take place. Those buildings have several types of rooms, from small ones with a capacity for 10 people to the larger amphitheatres which can host up to 700 attendants. All rooms have nice conditions and most of them are equipped with updated video projection technology.
The location of FCUL is on the boundary of the central part of Lisbon. There are different means of transport to the town centre, including a direct subway connection and a large variety of buses.

FCUL has a relaxed environment alongside with the high scientific working spirit present in every corner. This unique combination makes FCUL, and Lisbon, a great place to meet
